This question was asked by a fellow member (@eric82) years ago, and I have not been able to find the solution to this answer as I am relatively new to Acumatica and would like to know what is causing this and how to correct it.

Does anyone have any feedback that may explain why the item descriptions don’t update on stock items automatically?

The Inventory Item Description is the default description for transactions in Acumatica including the customer and vendor documents.  You can also override the transaction description if you choose. Similarly, when you add an inventory item to a bill of material the description defaults from the inventory but you can include additional information that is specific to production such as a drawing number, manufacters’ part number, etc.  that should not be disclosed to customers or vendors.  If this flexibility is not desired, you can create a business event to trigger an import scenario to update the descriptions in the bill of material.

Hi @randimundt can you provide more context? Stock items store item descriptions. Sounds like maybe you might have an automated process that updates stock item descriptions?

Ok.  Our team was doing some testing and I think that we were working with a non-stock item.  So for clarification, non-stock items don’t store item descriptions?
