Convert binary snapshot to XML

Is it possible to prepare an existing binary snapshot already prepared for export in XML using “Prepare in XML format”?

If this is possible, would I need to put the tenant in maintenance mode to do so?

I exported a binary snapshot to import via the setup wizard and also to save as much space as possible but I forgot that it had to be in XML format for that method of import to work.

    ​@shelbyf I dont think we have a option to convert this.

      I think I understand it now, the snapshot is already created regardless of if/how the export has been set up. Once the snapshot is created, “Prepare for XML” and “Prepare for Binary” are two methods of preparing that snapshot for export. It does not create a new snapshot. Please correct me if I’m mistaken.

       No — a snapshot prepared in Binary format cannot be converted to XML afterward.

      • The Export Format (Binary vs XML) is chosen when the snapshot is prepared.
      • Prepare in XML Format creates a .zip containing .xml files.
      • Prepare in Binary Format creates a .zip containing .adb files.

      These are separate preparation processes, so a snapshot that was already prepared as Binary cannot be re-prepared as XML.

      What this means for your situation:

      • You would need to create a new snapshot and select “Prepare in XML Format.”
      • The existing binary snapshot cannot be repurposed for the XML-based import method.
