We have recently started using PO approvals which work great except that anyone can print the PO before it’s approved and then send that to the vendor which defeats the purpose of having approvals at all. Is there anything our of the box that can restrict printing a PO until it has been approved?

You would need to do a simple customisation to the Action on the PO screen to add a disable condition there is already one there
