Is it possible to set up a customer which has multiple locations for shipping and not assign any as the default?

The intent is to have sales orders for that customer not prepopulate with any location on order creation - a sort of indicator that the customer has multiple locations and care should be taken that the correct location is selected. We would still want to have customers with a default location selected to have that location populate for expediency.

@plambert Currently we don't have an option as per the configuration as you need to customize the screen as per your requirement.

Do you mean that you want some customers to automatically have a default location selected when creating a Sales Order. And you want some other customers not to have a default location automatically selected when creating a Sales Order (the main purpose is for the SO creator to reselect the location)?

I have the following non-Customization idea. For the group of customers that you do not want to automatically have a default location selected when creating a Sales Order (the main purpose is for the SO creator to reselect the location) => you create a default location for this group of customers in a way that is easy to identify, and you know that you have to reselect the location. For example:
+ Customer Location ID: RESELECT 
Location Name: SELECT LOCATION

 

 

+ Customer Location ID: XXX 
Location Name: MUST SELECT LOCATION

It’s an interesting idea to have a dummy location, NNT. My issue with it is that there is nothing stopping that location from being saved to the order; there’s nothing invalid about it which the system will raise an error on. It still requires whomever is doing the order entry to pay attention to each customer’s location which, unfortunately, does not always happen. Ideally, it would be something the system could enforce, since the location is a required field.

Relatedly, Acumatica does not let a customer’s default location be deleted or set inactive, so those means of trying to get around a customer having a working default location do not work.

 

I have also considered a pop-up note for these customers so that the order entry process is interrupted, but pop up notes occur on other screens as well so to that approach has some side effects. This isn’t a process-breaking issue, I’m mostly curious if there was a little trick or obscure setting to not have the sales order’s location prepopulate, without having to adjust events with a customization.
