Hi Team,

We need clarification around the impact of updating the Customer field for any existing Active project in the system. One of our clients (Company A) has been purchased by another company (Company B), and all invoicing and customer contact information needs to be updated for the existing projects to go to Company B.

Originally, we were going to update the Customer field to Company B, but we wanted to understand what the project or financial impact might be if we changed the customer field from Company A to B for these projects.

@gowrishankarsk32, I have received your case submission on this issue, and have tested in Sales Demo.  You are able to change the customer on the project, any invoices that were already existing on the Project will remain on the project under Customer A, it will use the information from Company B going forward.

@gowrishankarsk32 - Updating the customer will update a few things like Retainage % and Default GL accounts if Customer B has different values.  However, the existing invoices/memo’s will still be associated with Customer A.

Have you considered making Customer A a child account of Customer B?  This might work if you’re OK with invoicing Customer A for the remainder of the project lifecycle and just have Customer B pay the invoice.  However, if the invoice needs to reflect Customer B, you can change the Customer and then new invoices will reflect the change.

Let me know what you think
