Unable to Open Server Reports in Acumatica Report Designer – XML Root Element Missing Error

Dear Sir,

I’m experiencing an issue while trying to open server-side reports using the Acumatica Report Designer tool. I can open local reports without issue, but when I try to access reports from the server, I get the following error:

System.Xml.XmlException: Root element is missing.

  at System.Xml.XmlTextReaderImpl.Throw(Exception e)

  at ...

  at PX.Reports.Design.ControlHelper.ReadConnectionHistoryFromConfigFile(...)

This seems to be caused by a malformed or corrupted XML configuration file. Based on my investigation, the error relates to the file:

C:\Users\<MyUsername>\AppData\Roaming\Acumatica\PX.ReportDesigner\ServerHistory.xml

I’d appreciate your assistance in either:

  • Replacing the corrupted ServerHistory.xml with a valid one, or
  • Confirming if the file can be safely deleted so it can be regenerated by the application.

Please let me know how to proceed or if any additional configuration is required.

Hi @IsuriKalpana, Please check whether there is a file named config.xml in C:\Users\<MyUsername>\AppData\Roaming\, as shown in the screenshot below. If it exists, please delete it and try again with Report Designer.

you can safely delete or rename ServerHistory.xml
you’re removing the malformed XML so the designer can start over with a clean slate
Make sure no instances of Report Designer are running. This ensures the file isn’t locked and prevents any unexpected behavior
