We are exploring a concept —  help us get it right!

Acumatica Platform team is looking into ways to give non-admin users the ability to build their own GIs and Reports, while administrators control which data they can access. For example, a finance analyst building expense reports without ever seeing what employees are paid.

We would love to hear your thoughts by commenting below to help us understand what level of control matters to your organization and why.

Question 1: Review the two Mockups below and Provide your answers in comments

If a user should not have access to Payroll data (for example), what should their GI and Report Designer experience look like?

Option A: Payroll DACs are completely hidden. Users only see the DACs they have access to.

Option A

Option B: Payroll DACs are visible and can be used to build GIs and Reports, but no data is returned at preview or runtime.

Option B

Question 2: Select a Poll answer below

Your analyst has access to the Payroll table — but should every field be accessible to them?

Question 1 - Option B, assuming that when a user, that does have access to that data, runs the GI or Report, data will be returned.

Either way, there needs to be a way to limit their ability to publish the GI.  If every user can clutter up the system, we won’t let users have access to this.

Additionally, a way for the user to put notes on the GI that are visible to the end user is a must.  An extra text box in the GI edit screen that displays in the header area of the GI can be implemented by an intern.

Option No

Going against the grain with Option A.  Prefer not to even show it.

Option A. Don’t show it. Showing it creates unnecessary curiosity.
