Project X Error "Cannot open this record for editing: The form PM301000 does not contain it."

I am receiving this error when I try to go into project X to look at all the associated invoices: “Cannot open this record for editing: The form PM301000 does not contain it.” I have tried unpublishing any customization projects and this does not resolve the issue. I also have rights to view the screen. The only project that gives me this message is project X. I have seen that this is a known issue, though I have not figured out how to fix this.

@jlindsey - Great question.

Project ID “X” is a non-project placeholder and the setting is defined in your project preferences screen.

Every transaction table in the system uses the Project ID field, even if the Projects module is not installed.  The system and database is designed so that a Project ID value is required, so the developers chose “X” by default to indicate that a transaction is not associated with a project.  Since “X” is not a project, there’s no project for you to click into or review.

We hope that clears things up for you. 😊
