I have a question regarding the purpose of the WIP Account in the Posting Class and Stock item.

According to the documentation, the WIP Account and WIP Variance Account fields are enabled only when the MRP or DRP feature is licensed and enabled. However, MRP and DRP themselves do not perform any accounting postings directly, so I'm trying to understand the reasoning behind this dependency.

From my testing, I observed that when WIP and WIP Variance Accounts are defined on the Stock Item, those accounts take precedence over the accounts configured in the Production Order Type. This behavior appears to be intentional.

Does anyone know why their availability is tied specifically to the MRP or DRP license, even though those features don't generate GL postings themselves?

They are not related to MRP or DRP, it appears you found a defect in our documentation.

The wip account in all places are just defaults for the production order when its created. Order type is the fall back if nothing is configured for the posting class.
