All Inventory Planning (MRP/DRP) and Inventory Replenishment is performed at the Item Warehouse level because that is where supply, on hand, and demand are processed. Safety Stock, Reorder Point, and Max Qty should only be set at the item warehouse level; setting them on the Stock Item would result in all warehouses having these value which is usually not desired. Vendor order quantity modifiers (min order qty/max order qty/lot size) can be set on the stock item since they typically apply to all warehouses but can be overridden.. Order quantity modifiers for manufactured items should be set at the item warehouse if the sites have different constraints or processing methods.
Prior to our upgrade to 25R1, we were able to run MRP and the Inventory Replenishment system. Inventory Replenishment was our foundation and MRP was in place to try and warn us where we needed it most. The upgrade forced us to choose one or the other at the stock item level so we choose to keep MRP since most of the reporting related to Inventory Replenishment is easy to reproduce in an inquiry
However - with the Inventory Replenishment tab being replaced with Inventory Planning, we’ve lost the ability to modify Min/Max/Safety Stock values on the Inventory Replenishment tab of the stock item and have to update the Item Warehouse details using Override checkboxes. Previously, we had assigned replenishment classes to the warehouse and were very easily able to modify values at the warehouse level from the stock item
That’s all been replaced by a very similar looking “Inventory Planning” page that is updating ALL warehouse to the same values, which seems to me entirely useless for anyone that has multiple warehouses. While I can understand how the system now works - this really changes how people interact with the system and has unfortunately added a lot of confusion instead of simplicity
If Safety Stock, Reorder Point, and Max Qty should only be set at the item warehouse level, why put those value on the stock item?? Why not add those values as editable fields on the Warehouses Tab?? I can’t see how the Inventory Planning tab helps anyone that is using multiple warehouses
