Production Orders that Won't Stock Parts

Hi all,

We are implementing the manufacturing module in about 3 weeks and had a scenario come up that I’m unsure of the best way to handle.  We use production orders for sampling new products.  We need to be able to log material and labor transactions against the production order, but we do not want the parts to stock into inventory.  I tried to adjust some settings but haven’t found anything that lets us do this.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

Do you want the parts to not be available or are you destroying the parts for testing? There are a couple of options here.

You could receive the parts into inventory and then immediately issue them out and use a reason code to denote that the adjustment / issue out was due to R and D.

If the parts may eventually be useable but are not ready for sales, then another option could be to receive the parts into an inventory location that is not included in quantity avaialble, not included in allowed for sales, etc.. and then once they are approved could be transferred to a different location, or adjusted/issued out if they are not approved.

I would love to hear others suggestions but those are the first two ideas that come to my mind.

You can enter the qty produced as scrap on your final move if none of the solutions mentioned by Andre won’t work for you
