Material Release Ignores Project Inventory Settings (2025 R1)

Hi everyone,

We’re seeing unexpected behavior in Acumatica 2025 R1 and would like to know if anyone else has experienced this.

Our project is configured as:

  • Inventory Tracking: Track by Location
  • Allow Issue from Free Stock: Unchecked
  • All project inventory is stored in a dedicated location (KIT).

When we click Release Materials, the Material Wizard lists the materials. However, after selecting Select All, the Materials screen lists inventory from all warehouse locations, and the Inventory Source includes both Project Stock and Free Stock.

Our expectation is that, since Allow Issue from Free Stock is unchecked, Acumatica should only issue Project Stock from the assigned KIT location and should not consider Free Stock at all.

This is not the behavior previously. It only picked materials from the assigned project location (if it’s Track by Location) and did not consider Free Stock when the Allow Issue from Free Stock option was unchecked.

If anyone has encountered this issue or found a workaround, I’d appreciate your input.

I’ve attached screenshots and the relevant patch release notes for reference.

Does recent patch fix has anything to do with this behavior?

Hi Prasad,

Thanks for the detailed write-up and screenshots. Your understanding is correct: when Allow Issue from Free Stock is unchecked on the project, material release should draw only from Project Stock in the assigned (KIT) location and should not surface Free Stock as an eligible source. Seeing both sources offered in that configuration is not the expected behavior.

On your question about a recent patch: the recent changes to how the material release process evaluates project vs. free stock have gone into 2025 R2 and 2026 R1 builds, not 2025 R1. So on a clean 2025 R1 build, a recent patch is unlikely to be the direct cause here - but to say that with confidence, I'd recommend opening a support case and attaching your project configuration screenshots so it can be reproduced and tracked against your exact environment.

Thanks,

Dishant
