Manual split of a production order.

Is there anyone that has come up with a way to split a production order after production has started, manually, that allows for the order to be tied back to the original order for quality compliance?

If so, how are you doing it?

We are trying to use Acumatica 2026.

Example: 100 pc are put into production 7 steps into production we need to split the order due to some issue. 50 will be completed as originally planned and 50 will go through some other process before being shipped to the customer.

We need to maintain the history of the entire production order for quality purposes. Even if it requires a custom report and some way to flag the orders to put them together.

Using Lots or serial numbers are not an option.

Hi,

After the first 50 are done, you can complete the production order short and then use a business event to create the remaining 50 and add the parent production order nbr into a user defined field for the child production order.

we have discussed internally the idea of having blanket production orders, to deal with concept of contract production and releases.  Not the same, exactly, but it could be adapted to this use case.  Is this functionality that you’d consider for this problem?

Something I have seen done in the past is similar to what @Eric Ratté  mentioned. it really depends on the process that you are changing. Are you keeping the same part number? Are you using a different Bom Revision? Where does the process change?  Can you make them all complete and then rework them?

There are a lot of factors that may impact what you are trying to do. Marking the Production Order complete and either manually updating or utilizing a business event if it is a regular occurance would be the best way to do that. You would have to add a reference field or UDF to link them both together though.

Thanks, everyone!

We make custom parts per customer request. The part number is the same for all orders from that customer for the specific custom part.

Internally, the number of processes for a single item could be up to 30. Unfortunately, some of these processes are completed by outside vendors. This is one cause for the need to split orders.

Another example of a split; The customer orders a plain part and we start production, then they decide that they need this same part machined but not the whole order.

Then of course there could be weld or rework required but only for a portion of the parts.

Yes, the BOM would change in some instances. Still trying to figure out the best way to handle those situations.

Following Eric’s way would allow us to have traceability back to the original order for quality purposes.

It did take me a while to figure out how to setup the user defined field and create the business event.

For reference, we are not actually using Acumatica yet. We hired an outside consultant a year ago and they are having a hard time figuring out how to deal with all our manufacturing processes.

So, I turned to the real experts you guys!
