Linking a stock item to multiple BOMs

Is there a way to update the Stock Item ID associated to a BOM, without deleting and re-creating the BOM?

Thanks!

@aj492 - why wouldn’t you just keep the old BOM and deactivate it. Then you have the history?

@aj492 - What is your use case? Was this a mistake and you are trying to fix it? or is there another reason you are trying to do this?

@Debbie Baldwin We recently switched over to Acumatica from our old ERP, and in the process we’ve had some BOMs which require updating from their old spec. However, we want to keep the old BOM in our system (for reporting purposes), and create a new BOM to link to the part instead. We’ve configured the new BOMs in our Sandbox environment and want to be able to copy these updated BOMs over to our Production environment, unlink the old BOMs, and link the new ones after ensuring everything is configured correctly.

Basically, we want to keep the old BOM, but still unlink it from the Stock Item and link the new (updated) BOM to the same item.

On Stock Items use the Change ID action?  so the BOM references the same record of a different name.  Then copy that BOM to you new item?

@angierowley75 We want to keep the same item and part name, only the BOM should change. Don’t want to create a new item or change anything about the existing one.

@Debbie Baldwin Need to check with my team to see if the old BOM needs to remain active for some internal process / reporting / record-keeping reason. If not, then that should suffice. Let me cover my bases here - if it does need to remain active, is there any way to still decouple from the stock item? It sounds like my team really wants to be able to edit that inventory ID field for convenience’s sake.

@aj492 - no I don’t know of a way. Keep in mind you can have multiple BOMs for the same item. Multiple active BOMs and also BOMs that are inactive.

@Debbie Baldwin Alright, no problem. I think deactivating the BOM should be fine in any case. Thanks for the help!
