Hi

I’m trying to create a by-product and per the instructions it says select in BOM but I don’t seem to see that as an option?  Only have “regular, Phantome or subcontract”

Anyone else have this as a problem?  Am i looking in the wrong field? Missing something in setup?

Hi @sahbixby

Try the following:

  1. For the material you wish to be a by-product, put a negative quantity required

Here is a help activity which contains an example of a by-product in a BOM https://help.acumatica.com/Help?ScreenId=ShowWiki&pageid=8271baad-0f9f-4e42-a723-19d0de86bfd4

Let me know if you run into any issues.

Edited to remove incorrect information.

Yes.  The “By-Product” is, by definition, a unique stock item.  The resulting by product in your recipe can either be a product being used and returned back to stock, or it can be a compound or waste item that can be used in other production orders or sold to a third-party.  To establish a “by-product” line in your BOM’s Material details section, simply select the stock item representing the by-product, and then use a negative value to represent the amount of the by-product that will be placed in stock after the operation in the production order is completed.

@andrestamour43 i still don’t have that as an option, i’m guessing it was something wrong with my original set up?

@sahbixby -

That was my mistake, the by-product check box is only visible on Production Order Details (AM209000). For the Bill of Material (AM208000) materials grid, you would simply put a negative quantity required. Then when you create a production order from the BOM you will see that item has the by-product check box selected on Production Order Details (AM209000)

@andrestamour43 that worked! Thanks!

But didn’t quite hit the goal i was looking to accomplish, i am unable to create move transaction (to receive) some of that product?  (on the move transaction it won’t let me change the inventory ID to that By-Product)

Is that limit of the system?

Example: The goal is to get the end product on production order, but if there is some off quality product, i can receive that as it’s own item and sell it.  I know i could do a manual adjustment but that wouldn’t show with the cost/performance of the production order.  Realistically you would want to put some of the material/labor cost to the off quality product

@sahbixby

You create receipts of by-products via a materials transaction. This will create a receipt of the by-product.
