Flagging hazardous material for shipment (EasyPost)

All,

We’re currently on 24R2 in the process of upgrading to 26R1. We just recently updated to EasyPost due to the native UPS/FedEx connectors going away.

My shipping department just asked me how to flag/ship hazardous materials… this had never come up before so it’s caught me off guard.

I see no hazmat or msds or commodity code setting in the EasyPost plugin.

When I go to any shipping tab (Shipments or Sales Orders), I see no way to flag hazmat.

Same thing with attributes -- I see no hazmat or msds fields.

Have I been living under a rock? How did our items ship before and this wasn’t an issue? Why is it an issue now?

Can someone point me in the right direction? My gut is telling me I need to create attributes/UDFs and run an import scenario for all the items, but even with that I’m not sure how this gets communicated back to EasyPost.

Hi @swartzfeger ,

The FedEx/UPS direct integrations did not support shipping Hazmat.  Is it possible your VAR had created a customization on your behalf to support this scenario?

The Acumatica EasyPost integration, as well, does not support Hazmat.

There are a number of shipping solutions on Acumatica Marketplace that could fill this need for you.  To find out more, please see: https://www.acumatica.com/acumatica-marketplace/

Thanks @Dana Moffat that’s great to know. I’m meeting with our VAR tomorrow and may end up rolling my own solution!

You might want to explore how a integrated shipping software like StarShip simplifies hazardous materials (hazmat) shipping by incorporating the required shipping rules and documentation into the shipping process. Instead of manually completing carrier requirements or relying on separate systems, users can configure hazmat information for their products and let StarShip automatically apply it when those items are shipped.

As orders are processed, StarShip identifies hazardous materials, validates the shipment against carrier requirements, and automatically populates the appropriate shipping information. The software can generate compliant shipping labels, apply required package markings, include necessary hazardous materials documentation, and transmit the required electronic data to supported carriers.

StarShip integrates with Acumatica, product and order information flows directly into the shipping process, reducing manual data entry and helping ensure hazardous materials shipments are prepared consistently. This automation helps improve accuracy, reduce compliance risks, save time for shipping staff, and create a more efficient shipping workflow for regulated products.

I recommend StarShip Acumatica shipping software if my customers find they need more features for Acumatica shipping than EasyPost offers.

You can learn more about StarShip on the Acumatica Marketplace: https://www.acumatica.com/acumatica-marketplace/v-technologies-starship-shipping-software/
