Export Scenario – Barcode Values in CSV Are Displayed in Scientific Notation

We are using an Export Scenario in MYOB Acumatica to export inventory item barcode values maintained under the Cross-Reference section of the Inventory Items screen to a CSV file.

When the barcode contains more than 12 digits, the exported CSV file displays the value in scientific notation instead of the exact barcode number. For example:

  • Expected value: 9312554401266

  • Actual value displayed: 9.31E+12

We are planning to integrate MYOB Acumatica with a third-party portal, where the CSV file generated by the Export Scenario will be automatically transferred to the portal without any manual intervention.

Therefore, we need the barcode values to be exported as their exact digits in the CSV file, rather than in scientific notation, without requiring users to manually change the file format after downloading or exporting the file.

Could you please advise if there is a way to configure the Export Scenario or apply any other standard functionality in MYOB Acumatica to ensure that barcode values are exported as exact digit strings in the CSV file?

We would appreciate any guidance on achieving this without requiring customization, if possible.

Just to confirm, when you look at the CSV file, are you using a text editor to do so? CSV files will typically want to open in Excel which will distort those field values when displaying them.

This is most likely Excel’s display behavior, rather than Acumatica changing the barcode during export. Excel’s General format displays large numbers in scientific notation, including numbers with 12 or more digits. Microsoft Support
First, open the original exported CSV in Notepad or another text editor, without saving it through Excel.
Value in the raw CSV    What it means
9312554401266 or "9312554401266"    The export preserved the barcode correctly.
9.31E+12    The notation is actually in the exported data and needs investigation.

If the raw CSV contains the full digits, no Acumatica customization or manual file conversion is needed. Transfer the original file directly to the portal and configure the portal’s barcode column as text/string, preserving leading zeros and long identifiers.
