Acumatica and Purview Information Labels

This is a known limitation when integrating Microsoft Purview Information Protection (MIP) with ERP systems like Acumatica.

Currently, Acumatica does not have native, built-in capabilities to process or "decrypt" Excel files that have been encrypted via Microsoft Purview (or standard password protection) during the "Import from File" or standard Import Scenario workflows.

Because Purview restricts access at the file level, Acumatica's import engines are blocked from reading the raw data necessary to map it to the database fields. This is why changing the label to "Public" (removing the encryption) allows the file to upload successfully.

Potential Solutions & Workarounds

1. Decrypt Before Upload (Manual) The most common standard workaround is to change the label or decrypt the file locally in Excel right before uploading, and then re-apply the label to the local file if necessary.

2. Automated Decryption Staging (Middleware) If the upload process needs to be automated or occurs frequently, organizations often use middleware or an integration layer (like Microsoft Power Automate, Logic Apps, or a custom script):

• The middleware, which can be authenticated against your Microsoft tenant, decrypts the file in a secure staging area.
• It extracts the raw data.
• It then pushes the readable data into Acumatica via the Acumatica REST APIs rather than using the UI file upload.
