Nacha.org provides ACH file specs and all banks follow one of the two standards (Balanced file, or non-balanced). Several fields are defined as “Alphanumeric,” meaning letters and numbers, not symbols. ACH file specifications can be found on NACHA.org. (link)
Banks will accept a test file; sending a test file to your bank is the best way to determine whether your bank accepts your file.

+3Thanks, standards are great but we know some banks we have encountered don’t follow the standard because they can.
We are upgrading a GP client to Acumatica and they have been using ACH with GP without any issues and with non-alphanumeric in the names. We certainly will ask to test Acumatica ACH with their banks.
