Adding a note here for anyone landing on this later - native merge for Vendor (or Customer) records still isn't available today, per Laura's and Doug's replies above, so preventing the duplicate at entry is really the best lever in the meantime.
For teams that already have a backlog of duplicates or other master-data cleanup to work through, I'm building AcuTidy, a bulk-edit/dedupe tool for Acumatica that runs through the standard Connected-app REST/OData API - no customization required.
