When we send invoices or statements to customers via email, from within Acumatica, we often hear that they were not received until our 3rd or 4th attempt.  I realize there are many reason for this excuse, but is there a “nondeliverable” message we should get if an email is attempted and really does not go through?

@MFarnsworth10 Acumatica doesn't create a bounce notice of its own. What you see depends on where delivery fails.

If your mail server refuses the email when Acumatica hands it over, Acumatica knows. The email stays Pending Processing and retries on your send schedule until it hits the Automatic Resend Attempts limit on Email Preferences (SM204001). Then it turns Failed. A 5xx error from the server fails it right away. Filter All Emails (CO409070) on Failed to find them.

Once your server accepts the email, Acumatica marks it Processed. If the customer's server rejects it after that, the bounce goes back to the address the invoice was sent from. Acumatica only picks it up if that system email account has an incoming mail server set up on Email Accounts (SM204002) and your Send and Receive Email schedule receives as well as sends. Even then it only shows on the invoice's Activities when Acumatica can match it to the original email, so check the account's incoming emails too. If nobody reads that mailbox, that's where any bounces are.

For proof of delivery per email, look at the SendGrid integration (the SendGrid Integration feature on CS100000, there from 2024 R2 on). It tracks delivery, bounces and, with open tracking on, opens, all on the Tracking tab of each email. You'll need a SendGrid account, and a self-hosted site has to be reachable from the web for the tracking webhook.
