Our client is interested in using a 28 day billing period for a few of their service contracts.  Is there any way to set that up in Field Service?

On the service contracts, the billing types of End Period Plus, Beginning Period Fixed and Beginning Period Plus, only allows to set a billing period of Monthly; they do not allow to set custom number of days as billing period.

Instead, what you can do is create the Service contract with Billing Type At Time of Service and create a schedule that will handle the bills. Here is the setup to consider:

  • I recommend creating a Service Order Type that indicates that this type of Service Order will only be for billing purposes.
  • Create one Schedule with the Only Billing Service Order Type, add the Non-Stock item to bill, and a Recurrence of Daily with 28 days.
  • Create the other Schedules with a different Service Order Type to differentiate them. If the items will be covered, set the lines on the schedule with Billing Rule None.
  • For the Only Billing Service Orders or Appointments, create an Automated Schedule that will Close the documents (filter by the service order type) then another that will run billing for them

What are you expecting to be included on the invoice generated from the service contract?

  • is it a flat rate amount?
  • will the invoice happen at the end of the period so it will include additional services and materials that happened during the period?

It would be a flat amount every period.  The invoice will not include additional services.

HI @MComan62

It seems the closest you can get to that would be a specific day of the month. Grouping by Time Frame is the option.
