I need to sort the tasks in a particular order which is not alphabetic up or down. It will differ per project.

+8Have you tried sorting by created date? It seems like it should solve what you have described here:
Have you tried a naming convention?
We use
1 - Scan
2 - Prep
3 - Review
4 - Clear
etc.
To make this even easier, you could also add segmented keys.
