Not allocation location on shipment

When creating a shipment from a sales order, is there a setting or configuration that does not automatically populate/allocate the Warehouse location? We would like to leave that blank/unallocated and give the picker all the qty on hand on the pick list.

Once they pick, then they choose the location before confirming.

Up until Acumatica 2026 R1 that is not an option. You can allocate without a location, but once a shipment is created it will autoallocate the locations based on your picking path logic and where items are available; either way you can not override where to pick from.

I believe I saw that in the upcoming 2026 R1 you will have the option to have warehouse pickers pick from alternate locations.

Hello jamest62,

To achieve a workflow where the Warehouse location remains blank until the picker manually selects it, you should look at your Order Types and Shipment Settings configuration.

Here are the specific settings to check:

  • Allocation Settings: Go to the Order Types (SO201000) screen for the specific order type you are using (usually 'SO'). Under the General Settings tab, ensure that "Process Shipments" is configured correctly. If "Require Allocation" is checked, the system will try to force a location immediately.

  • Warehouse Location Settings: Check the Warehouses (IN204000) screen. If you have "Automatic Packaging" or specific "Pick Priority" set for locations, the system will always try to suggest the best location based on quantity on hand.

  • Pick List Workflow: For the pickers to see all quantity on hand without a fixed location, you might want to adjust your Pick List report to group by Item instead of Location. This allows the picker to choose the physical bin they are standing in front of.

  • Confirmation Step: Ensure that your Shipments (SO302000) screen is not set to "Auto-Confirm." This keeps the Location field editable so the user can enter the correct location during the picking process before the final update.

I hope this helps you streamline your picking process!
