The "Auto-Incremental Value" feature set in the "Lot/Serial Classes" screen can help limit the number of characters of a Lot/Serial number.

Thanks for the input. That can work well for a manufacturer. My client is a distributor receiving machinery that they sell and I am hoping to constraint the numbers they can enter upon receipt. I can “suggest” the format with the existing tools but haven’t found a way to limit it.
