Set Default Segment in New Key

I have a two part segmented key, first part variable, second part auto incrementing number. For some screens I would like to set the default on a new Key to be ‘CUS-<NEW>’ rather than what is shown now ’   -<NEW>’ (three spaces and -<New>).

How can I set one of the segments value on a new key for the default value?

Also,

I tried to extend CRCreateOpportunityAllAction and set the default via the FieldDefaulting event, but it was not obvious how to extend CRCreateOpportunityAllAction.
