You should be able to delete the customer account, if you do not have access to this, ask your sys admin.

+17It is possible to delete the Customer without deleting the Business Account. I forget, though, if you need to revoke the permission to delete the Business Account in order to prevent it from doing both at once.

When you delete the Customer it also deletes addresses and contacts, even if they were added before the Business Account was extended to Customer.
So..is there a way to delete the customer account if extended in error, but keep the business account intact?

Yes, revoke the permission to delete Business Accounts for the user doing it
