Shelton Waggener is President of American Asphalt Repair & Resurfacing, the premier flatworks construction company in Northern California.  Now in its 41st year, the firm has grown from a small Slurry Seal company to over 180 employee owners, working across multiple trades including Asphalt, Concrete, Slurry, Seal Coat and Striping to deliver to its many longtime customers. Waggener joined American Asphalt in 2018 to lead a business transformation resulting in a 70% increase in company revenues while moving from an all paper-based model to a digital one focused on collaboration and ensuring information available to every member of the team – on the road, at the job site or from the office.  Those changes have also supported the transition to an employee-owned enterprise where each member of the team shares in the companies advancement.

Prior to joining American Asphalt, Waggener served several decades in leadership positions across multiple industries, including as Senior Vice President of Internet2, the US national research and education network; as Associate Vice Chancellor and Chief Information Officer at the University of California, Berkeley, and previously as Chief Information Officer of InterNetworking Systems, an $8B division of Lucent Technologies; Director of IT for Octel Communications; and Senior Director of IT for Sybase. He is also active on numerous startup company boards and works actively with not-for-profit organizations supporting the collaboration and advancement of technology in public and private sectors.
