I am trying to figure out a following scenario for Fixed Assets using DV as Depreciation method.

I have Assets With Following details:

When I perform the First depreciation it has posted negative value which has essentially increased the net asset value from its last depreciation amount before migration.

Is this Normal to have a negative value posted to the depreciation ?

Please also note the client has currently amended from AUS financial year to US financial year.

Hello,

If changes are made to an Asset that has already been depreciated, such as to increase the Life or change the Depreciation Method, the next time Depreciation is processed, Acumatica will use the new asset settings to “True Up” the Life to Date Depreciation on the asset using a Catch-Up Entry. It’s possible for the catch-up entry to be positive or negative.

Here is a previous post describing the Catch-Up entry, answered by Olga of Acumatica Support:

Thanks Laura,

It kind of Answers my question, the only issue I have is why it would be doing so if the method traditionally used is DV and in the new system is also DV.

The post mentions catchup entry in instance when the Dep. method has changed useful life years or some other parameters which seems to be marrying up to what was provided.

Looking forward to your response.

Hello,

“Why did this happen?”  I may not be able to answer this part.  I read help and test the software to evaluate how screens work.  I explain and demonstrate how the screens work… but I don’t always know why they work the way they do.

There is a related setting on FA Preferences - I don’t have the screen in front of me but it’s something like use ‘actual depreciation’ versus something different .

Sometimes depreciation will true up on the next month following asset migration - if the prior system had a difference compared to Acumatica’s calculations.

Perhaps another Community Member will post the answer to Why?

Best regards,

Laura

Thank you, Laura, for your detailed response. I appreciate the pointers regarding the FA Preferences and depreciation behavior. I’ll look into those settings further and see if they explain the issue. Hopefully, other community members might also weigh in with additional insights.
