Shopify deprecation of legacy custom app - Shopify Connector

Starting January 1, 2026, Shopify will prevent the creation of legacy custom apps. Instead the dev dashboard will have to be used.

The credentials and authentication process appears to be different for new apps developed using the Shopify dev dashboard.

Do we foresee any breaking changes for the Shopify connector after January 2026 if new legacy custom apps cannot be created?

Are there any documents relating to setting up the Shopify connector with newer apps developed through the Shopify dev dashboard? Specifically interested in whether the new “clientId” and “secret” associated with newer Shopify apps relate directly to the “API Access Token” and “API Secret Key” that were used in legacy custom apps? ie should those newer credentials just work in place of the older credentials? They don’t appear to.

I would recommend you to start using the Acumatica Cloud ERP https://apps.shopify.com/acumatica-cloud-erp from the Shopify Marketplace.

The instructions on how to install and connect to Acumatica can be found here https://help.acumatica.com/(W(77))/Help?ScreenId=ShowWiki&pageid=85560111-5bd0-4161-9692-d4662ae7ed2d

Once you move from custom app to Acumatica Cloud ERP app the transition is smooth, the sync just works. No need to do anything extra.

As a alternative you can create app from Shop Dev Dashboard (the new method) but to access Customer protected Data(APIs), you need request access from Shopify, they might verify you and might take few days to get it approved.

Many thanks for the information.

By the looks of it, this new app does streamline set-up for new shops. When converting an existing implementation to the new app, do you foresee any pitfalls or issues

When connecting an existing Shopify store in Acumatica the app does warn that the store will be overwritten. Is this the top level information that is overwritten? Having tried it with a sandbox version of Acumatica it looks like entity mappings are preserved after the overwrite which is helpful. Do we know what is and isn’t preserved in an overwrite?

Is there an entry point into Acumatica’s documentation which answers these sorts of questions on the newer “Acumatica Cloud ERP” app?

Thanks again.

@neilmarshallnvelopcouk  It just replaces the existing API credentials with the new credentials. It does nothing with the actual settings, mappings.

@neilmarshallnvelopcouk If the app serves your purpose then please review and rate of the app. Thank you very much.
