Clock Entries - Gathering some feedback

Hi!

We have started looking into ‘Clock Entries’ within the Manufacturing module with the intent of using the feature to document and track employee clock time. I understand that the entries are tied to a production order but in our use case, we don’t necessarily need to track against a production order or use it to attach labor cost to the production order.

We liked the feature of being able scan in, scan out, and approve the clock entries. We only really need to capture the employee, the start time, the end time, and the duration between scans. We will then use that information for reporting.

Wanted to reach out this community to gather some thoughts on if this is suitable for my case or if I should look elsewhere.

Clock Entry currently does not allow for punchcard/payroll type functionality as you mentioned. Specifically clocking in/out for the day or for breaks.

This isn’t really a best practice, but if I had to make it work I would create a Production Order Type for Clock Entries.  Then create a Work Center, Item and BOM that all have $0 cost. Then create a “Clock Entry” Production Order against that Item and use that for tracking purposes. The only question is how frequently you would want to create new Clock Entry orders for reporting purposes.

You would then have the ability to report on the Clock Entries or the Labor transactions.

@ealvez - when you say you only want to use it for reporting - what type of reports are you looking to generate? Just curious.

@andrewm - that was going to be my suggestion too - but just wanted to make sure I was not giving them bad advice (thus my question on what they need to report)
