Question

Multiple POs for same outside process operation on one production order

Our team is currently in the middle of an implementation of Acumatica 2025R1. We have the manufacturing module.

With our existing process, we would make a production order for 100 parts with an outside process operation. We might only have a portion of the parts ready for outside processing, and would make a PO for those parts and send them for outside processing. Later, we may send another portion from the same production order on another purchase order, etc., until all parts have been sent for outside processing. The parts from the earlier PO might return before the other parts, and we would start working on the next operation for those quantities.

Is there a way to achieve this process in Acumatica? We want to be able to track the costs from the purchase orders on the production order and track the quantities sent to the vendor, including how many have been returned and how many are waiting to go.

Production Order Line (Material) only allows one Purchase Order per line.  You might breakup the material line based on the quantity you are sending. That will allow multiple POs for the same OSP

How do you specify how much of the total quantity is being used on each material line on the operation?

I would suggest that you would change the production order line when you know what you are ready to send.  The next line you insert would be what is open to send to the vendor.

I’ve tried something like that.

Total quantity of parts to make was 100.

I made the first material line for 1 quantity required with a batch size of 100 parts for $500 unit cost.

I made the PO for that line and a vendor shipment for 50 pieces. Then, I did a PO receipt for the PO and a move transaction for 50 pieces. Only half of the $500 cost went onto the production order.

I then made a second material line for 1 quantity required with a batch size of 100 parts for $500 unit cost.

I made a PO for the second line and a vendor shipment for the 50 remaining pieces. Then, I did a PO receipt for the PO and a move transaction for 50 pieces. The other half of the first $500 cost went onto the production order, along with half of the second $500 cost. The total cost on the outside service operation was $750, which should be $1000.

The first material line now shows complete, while the second shows in progress, despite the outside service operation showing as complete.

What might I be doing wrong?

Hi @SamLLMT did your problem get sorted out ? If not, Acumatica Support Team would be able to help you, because we need to see your Manufacturing related configurations so that we can give you a explanation why that cost difference occurred, and an answer to your initial question.

Thank you!
