I am trying to configure my stock item’s (Item A) inventory planning settings to create a single production order based on available inventory of the item being used to create Item A (Item B) and open sales orders for Item A.

According to current sales orders I need manufacture 16 Item A

Item A has the current Inventory Planning Settings (I have double checked to make sure the warehouse details for this item are the same)

Planning Method: MRP

Source: Manufacturing

Min Order Size: 0

Max Order Size: 1000

Lot Size: 0

I have tried a wide array of settings and so far haven’t been able to reach my goal.

Thanks!

You would need to enable “Days of Supply”

Check out Consolidation of Items in Multiple Demands from Online Help to see if this addresses your need

@SBaldwin  - are you saying that MRP is not planning an order for Item A?

It is but it’s planning 1 production order for every single sales order instead of combining the total of all sales orders and putting that number into a single production order :)

When I’m on the Inventory Planning Display page and select all of the items this window pops up and to me it looks like it is going to create a single production order for every SO

Yes that worked! Now I’m not sure if I have the correct buckets in place.

For this item (potato) we start taking orders from November until we sell out in March. We start production orders in February when we get the seed potatoes in from the farmers. We can use the first of the month for all of these dates for the example.

The document mentioned setting up planning buckets (I’m still hazy on that topic) for long term consolidation. Currently these are our inventory planning preferences.

I did change the “Days of Supply” at the item class level from 0 to 1, ran MRP, and it consolidated those sales orders perfectly. So it makes me wonder if maybe our planning preferences are fine?
