Configurator: updating features does not pull in new options in configurator maintenance

I’m working with a customer who is setting up a fairly lengthy configurator for their industrial product. He discovered that if he missed an option for one of the features, and then adds it in under the Features form, that it will not pull this new option into the selection set within the maintenance for his configuration. He ends up having to delete the feature, and then add it back in and recreate all the rules associated with that feature. I did see that you can export options and rules, then import them again when you recreate which should help the situation.

Has anyone else noticed this, and is there any other way to update the feature without having to remove it from the configuration. I tried using the refresh tool and that didn’t appear to pull in the new option.

Thanks in advance for any assistance or suggestions.

This seems to match the standard function of Acumatica. If a value is updated in the feature, it will not automatically update the configurations containing them. That will need to be done manually.

I am sorry to say that we have had the same experience. Once a feature is added to a configuration is does not update automatically if the feature itself is modified. I have not tested this in 2022 R1 to see if this has been improved. I am certainly interested if someone has a solution or this. It’s not a huge deal if it s simple configuration. I have a couple clients with extremely complex configuration with many formulas.

I am working with a client now on setting up Configurator and I know already this is going to be an issue. They sell items with color and finish options and would want all products to be updated with new available colors, if colors are added to the Feature list. I’m assuming we’ll have to set up Business Event to perform updates, but I’m curious if anyone else has found a solution.

Has anyone found a solution for the issue brought up here?
My company is phasing out a material in our products and needs to replace it with the new material in all of the relevant configurations.  There are 5-7 Features within each affected configuration that need the old material removed from Options, and the new one added.  As the OP noted, simply making this adjustment in Features does not automatically update the configurations.  Adding to the complexity of this quandary is the fact that a new revision must be made for a configuration in order to make changes.

Does anyone have an Import Scenario or series of Import Scenarios that they have created, that have helped to solve this problem?

The main issue really here is that even after copying a complex configuration the old state remains the same without updating Features etc.

I get it that is somewhat native Acumatica functionality but makes the maintenance of Product Configurators very very tedious.

I just learned that there is nothing on the roadmap either.

I created a Product Idea here if anyone wants to upvote this to maybe get some traction to make the Product Configurator better:

There just seems to be a lot of gaps in general for good usage in a MFG environment. We’ve been working with Acumatica on it and they’ve been great! But this is not on the Roadmap yet.

This along with quite a number of other things are significant gaps in the product configurator. If you have any kind of a complex product that has a lot of features/options, or have frequent product updates I highly recommend looking for a configurator in your industry’s vertical, that hopefully integrates with Acumatica.

We use huge excel sheets and import scenarios to manage ours - planning on moving away from it because it’s so tedious. An import of a new set of product configurations takes over 8 hours for us so we have to run it overnight.
