Our company currently has it set up for all sales orders entered to go on an initial “On hold” status...but once thats removed, it moves over to “awaiting payment” status for payment collection.
Is it necessary to have both of these set up or does it seem redundant?
We have the parameters already set up for credit holds and everything as well...so orders wouldnt move past “awaiting payment” unless manually altered.

The “awaiting payment” status comes from the credit term on the customer/order. On the credit terms for your customers, you have the below highlighted checkbox selected which means that the order will not proceed without a prepayment. If you are looking to skip this status, you could turn this checkbox off.
The awaiting payment status is important for ecommerce/retail where the payment is collected prior to shipment. It does not sound like it is important for your business.

@rfrantz i find that’s the on hold status is preferential by what the organization desires. i tend to start with that docs on hold at the beginning of the implementation which helps the client get used to how things work, however, i have started mentioning that i noticed more clients are looking to automate processes so the “hold document on entry” setting is typically turned off to help streamline the process.
if the option is not checked, that just means the sales order goes directly into an “open” status and once the cc is authorized then the status changes to pending payment/awaiting payment.
the setting can be turned off by selecting the order type in the preferences section:
with that said, i would say have the second checkbox turned on because when i tested this in my local environment, i found that if i dont have the option checks, the system leaves the order in the open status but still gives a warning. with the option turned on, the system will automatically move it from open to credit hold which would be my preferred method:
with hold document on failed credit check turned ON:
with hold document on failed credit check turned OFF:
Regarding the Hold Orders on Entry setting, I agree with Iqra that it’s something that a lot of companies turn off. The only thing I would add is that you might leave it on for companies that enter larger orders and want to save frequently before they finish entering the orders to reduce the chance that they lose their work.
That we you know when an Order is “being worked on” vs. “finished being worked on”.
