We would like to be able to add parts to a service order in the app via the bar code scanner.

Seems like ​@Derek35 answer was created by AI. While it’s true that you will need a customization to add parts with a barcode scanner to service orders, service orders screens is not available out-of-the-box in Acumatica mobile app. Appointments screen is. So, probably you will need to customize appointments or add service orders screen via a customization too. 

I would advise to contact an Acumatica ISV (Idependent Software Vendor) to talk about developing a customization. It’s likely that other customers have already gone down this route, since the functionality is requested by other Field Service companies.

There is also an idea related to this functionality that you can vote to, so this functionality gets included in Acumatica.

Yes, this is fully achievable with Acumatica's tools. You’ll need a customization using the barcode-driven engine, mobile framework, and some focused code development.

Suggested high-level approach if I had to design this:

  • Extend the FSServiceOrderEntry with a custom barcode scan class.
  • Define a scan mode that controls the scan flow: scan item, quantity, confirm.
  • Add a custom mobile action for the scanned item and inserts a new line into FSSODet.
  • Update the mobile layout screen to add a "Scan Part" button near grid.
  • Optionally support compound scans, a single label containing item code, quantity, lot/serial, and warehouse. One scan = full line entry, really handy.

It’s very doable, just recommend working with a seasoned developer familiar with the WMS and mobile platform tools to accelerate the build. 7/10 on the complexity meter. Good luck!
