Routing Sales Orders delivery trucks, not using service module

We are struggling with scheduling and routing sales orders that are shipped on our own delivery trucks.  For most of our sales orders the customer does not define a delivery date, we group deliveries based on location and the weight the truck can carry.  My goal is to delivery all orders within 10 business days of order entry.  

However I get to choose when the order gets delivered.  My initial thought was to leave the Requested On date empty as a visual queue that the order needed to be manually scheduled by distribution, but I can’t record a SO without entering that date.  We wrote an automation that defaults that date to 2 weeks out, but that’s still not giving my distribution department a quick way of seeing what orders are new and need to be scheduled.  

I need a solution that will allow me to visualize new SO’s that need to be correctly scheduled and visualization of the scheduled and unscheduled delivery locations so that if I already have a truck going somewhere, I can add more stops to that truck.    

I have production, distribution and service departments.  The service department runs well using the field service module. 

Any thoughts on doing this with Acumatica, or anyone have experience with third parties applications that might bolt-on to do this?

I have a client that has their own trucks.  They basically set it up so that the Ship Via dictates which truck and which delivery day.  I believe they deliver on 3 days so they had OT-M, OT-W, OT-F.  Our Truck - Monday essentially. 

When the sales order goes in and inventory is available, they will select the Ship Via that corresponds to the next week’s day.  If it’s a rush order they would look at the 2nd next truck.  This gives them time to pick it and stage it.

 

For example:

Standard order comes in on Tuesday, they will book for OT-M(onday) for next week.  They know that on Monday those are the orders going out.

 

If a Rush order comes in on Tuesday, they will book OT-F(riday) of this week.

travislawson does order entry choose OT-M, etc., or is there an automation?  How=w do they handle multiple our truck deliveries on the same truck on the same day?  I’m running my own 4 trucks 5 days a week.

I believe, ​@darylbowman has just released a customisation on his shopify for this.

 

It essentially allows you to plot points on a map from a generic inquiry. What this would allow you to do is generate a GI with unshipped/unscheduled orders, see the plotted delivery locations and plan the routes based off of this.

 

I am sure he can help you work it as you need it!

I’m also currently working on a bespoke project for a customer with very similar requirements. (I’m assuming it’s not for the same company 😉). I created a screen nearly identical to the Calendar Board (in the Modern UI) that allows them to drag-n-drop Sales Orders onto their trucks in order to schedule them for deliveries. The screen also contains a drag-out map that plots the routes, etc.

They do it manually based on the region the order is in.  I simplified the example in that they do have numbered truck so it might be OT1-M, OT2-M.  

You could certainly automate it with business events to trigger the change.  You could add a user defined field, in my example, region N, S, NE, SE, etc.  At order entry they could select the region the order is going to (or add it to a customer/ship to record instead).
