Kit inventory Configuration

I have Kits that contain many common items. currently I stock them as their own SKU instead of being a Kit. the problem is that those components don’t necessarily show up as available to purchase by customers since they are contained in the “kit”. the reverse is true as well for my inventory, If I have all of the components of a Kit, The Kit will not show as available to purchase by customers.

Has anyone run into this problem before, do you have any ideas for how to configure the stock items so that they are both visible?

Hi @AllenN ,

You could use non-stock kits.  Kit components are allocated when the shipment is created.  If you need to see availability at the time that the sales order is created, you could configure a generic inquiry to show the availability of the non-stock kit components.

If you need the visibility of stocked kits, the new DRP (Distribution Requirements Planning) module can be used to generate the kit assembly orders.

Hope this helps!

Hi @AllenN ,

The kit type (Non stock vs Stock) is based on whether the kitted item is Stock or Non Stock.  As of 2022 R2 there is a screen to convert an item from stock to non-stock, however there are some restrictions.

Hope this helps!
