Inventory Cycle Counts

Is there a best practice to setting up cycle counts? No matter what I try, the cycle count is selecting too many items. I tried a couple of different configurations for one of my company’s warehouses. The warehouse in question has about 13,000 items and I want to count every item 3 times per year spread out over the full year. I tried setting up a single cycle with a count frequency of 3 and assigned it to all items in the warehouse. I also set up multiple cycles, all with a frequency of 3 and randomly assigned them to items. Lastly, just for testing I created a cycle with a count frequency of 52. In every case Acumatica returned over 5,000 items to count in the first cycle count. This many items defeats the purpose of a cycle count. I would expect at a frequency of 3, the system would return 3,250 items to count [(13,000 * 3)/12]. What am I doing wrong?

What we’ve been told (but I’d love more input on this) is that, no matter what your number of items is set to, if nothing has been counted, everything gets returned.  The system expects you to count the number of items you want to count, whittle away at the list, and then in a year you’ll see it bringing back a smaller number of items.

It’s an odd selection system.

We’ve started moving more towards bin based blind counting.  Obviously this depends heavily on your warehouse structure, but we’ve found that, even in our old system that did provide a certain number of items per day without hassle, we wind up missing material because it’s not where we expect.  On our yearly full PI last month, I found almost 100 items in just a portion of the warehouse that had never been in inventory (or at lease haven’t been for a while).  Count sheet driven counts lead to things falling through the cracks.

Thanks for the reply. This is odd and not really manageable for us. We have multiple warehouses and over 32k items. I need to make this easy for our users without having to worry about manipulating the items that Acumatica returns. I would expect the system to be able to take my inputs and generate a useable list. If my understanding is incorrect then maybe someone can set me on the correct path.
