Best Way to Handle Master Packing

We have a customer that prefers us to master pack--packing several small boxes into a single larger box--so they don’t receive so many individual packages.

Here’s our current process:

  • In Acumatica, we pack everything into small boxes (for example, a box with carton ID C01) and enter the contents and weight for each small box. We can usually fit about six C01 boxes into one larger box, a C08.
  • We then move to ShipRush (third-party shipping software), where we enter the dimensions for the large/master box (the C08), generate the FedEx shipping labels, and manually add the master box with the tracking numbers back into the shipment in Acumatica.
  • In Acumatica, we use a dummy Ship Via (ShipRush FedEx), instead of FedEx Ground, so it doesn’t automatically populate tracking numbers.

This method works, but it feels clunky.

My question:

Is there a way to master pack directly in Acumatica without relying on ShipRush? For example: could we create a special carton ID (like “CIP”-carton inner pack) and have FedEx Ground only generate shipping labels for those CIP cartons, rather than every carton listed on the Packages tab?

If anyone has solved this--whether with native ACM functionality, customization, or a different integration--I’d really like to hear how you’ve approached it.

Why not skip the smaller boxes in Acumatica and only enter the larger one?

@Jeff96, because each box is going to a different store. We’re required to ship all the boxes together to the customer’s warehouse, and then they handle distributing the individual store boxes on their end.

I understand that. You can still manually pack it in smaller boxes, but not add it in Acumatica.

@Jeff96, the customer in question is an EDI customer. SPS Commerce has advised us that we need to pack each small box per store in ACM; otherwise the ASN data won’t transmit properly. So we do need to record all the individual boxes in ACM.

The challenge we’re trying to solve is how to also handle the master carton for shipping label purposes--without duplicating work in ShipRush.

Got it. I have a similar issue, and looking for a solution.
