Hi everyone,

Has anyone successfully added an external URL (for example a Power BI report) to the Acumatica Site Map so users can open it from the menu?

I created a Site Map entry pointing to the Power BI report URL, but when clicking it Acumatica tries to display it inside the page (iframe) and I get an error like: “app.powerbi.com refused to connect”.

  • Is there a recommended way to handle external links like this from Site Map?

  • Can Site Map be configured to open the URL in a new tab/window instead of embedding it?

  • Or is the best practice to use the Power BI reportEmbed URL / another approach (tile, dashboard link, custom screen)?

@ricoybanez,

Yes, this can be achieved by creating a Site Map entry with the full external URL and assigning it to the appropriate Workspace and Category.

If you use a public (open) Power BI link, Acumatica will open it in a new browser tab and it works without issues.

The “app.powerbi.com refused to connect” error happens because Power BI blocks iframe rendering for standard report URLs (security restriction via X-Frame-Options). In that case, Acumatica tries to load it inside the page and Power BI refuses it.

If the report is not public, the recommended approach is to use proper Power BI embedding (reportEmbed URL with authentication token). Otherwise, using the public/open link is the simplest approach.

Hi @raphrf,

This can be tricky, and I am not sure if it is possible. A couple of options are: putting the URL in a Dashboard widget, or by creating a Wiki page with a URL in it. Those would be the routes I would proceed with.

Cheers,

RJ

Hi @raphrf,

On my end, whenever I utilize Power BI, I follow this approach for integrating Power BI with Acumatica. Please refer to this link for your reference.

Thank you.
