add Parent Child relationship to Projects.

It would be very nice to be able to add separate subprojects (Child) to a Main Project to be able to track total revenue.  These would be projects where a change order wouldn’t make sense.  Say a main development project (progress billing), a separate child project for reoccurring billing of a maintenance contract. and a separate child project for T&M Billing.  Each of these has different revenue recognition needs and occur on different billing schedules but It would nice to be able to roll them up for reporting.

@seastman20@lfreeman  You could use tasks for this.  Each task can have separate billing rules and the revenue budget can have separate line items for each task based on Account Group or Cost Code or Inventory Item, then on reports or even on the budget you can total by task.   Reach out to your partner for more information.

We could really use something like this too. We will have one contract but two different areas of the company doing work and we need to track the revenue for each of those areas differently but need to invoice together.

Hi @seastman20

You can add this as a Product Idea that can be voted on by the community and Acumatica will consider it for a future release.

@Heidi Dempsey,

Unfortunately for some of us (Engineering Firm) the child project have multiple task. Since Acumatica does not allow for subtask our workaround was creating another field called parent project id. This is a selector of the project id. We then create a parent project plus the child project as projects in Acumatica. We then used the generic inquire screen to create an inquire that would link all the project together as seen in the screen shot below. Were P-16003.00 is the parent project and P-16003.01 &.02 are child with sum at the bottom. Hope this helps other and for Acumatica all it takes is to add another field to be able to do parent and child projects.

We’ve also done something similar to @freboredo for another customer and added that extra project look-up field on the projects screen.  Then, we did some fun report updates so that you can run project balances with the parent/child projects reporting either consolidated or project by project.
