Acumatica will end support for Microsoft SQL Server 2019 starting with Acumatica 2026 R2. Any deployment—PCS, on-premise, or OEM—that uses SQL Server 2019 will not be supported on or after this release. This applies to production and sandbox environments.
SQL Server 2019 will continue to run on Acumatica versions 2026 R1 and earlier, but Acumatica will not provide fixes or assistance for issues caused by this database version.
Why This Change Is Necessary
Microsoft has already ended mainstream support for SQL Server 2019 and placed it under extended support. Extended support limits the level of fixes and security enhancements available to customers.
Acumatica needs to ensure that customers operate on a modern, secure, and stable database foundation. Moving forward with SQL Server 2022 and SQL Server 2025 helps keep the platform aligned with current technology standards. It also positions environments to benefit from updated security capabilities introduced in newer SQL releases.
This decision reduces long-term risk for customers, partners, and the platform as a whole.
Impact on PCS, On-Premise, and OEM Deployments
If you host or operate Acumatica on SQL Server 2019, please note that Acumatica Support will not assist with any issues related to SQL Server 2019 on 2026 R2 or later Acumatica major versions, service packs, or patches. Environments that stay on SQL Server 2019 may encounter breaking changes or unexpected behavior when interacting with new Acumatica functionality. This change applies to all environments—production, sandbox, staging, test, and custom. Partners and administrators should treat this as a required infrastructure update.
Supported SQL Server Versions Going Forward
Acumatica will support:
- SQL Server 2019 and SQL Server 2025 for Acumatica versions 2026 R1 and prior
- SQL Server 2022 and SQL Server 2025 for Acumatica versions starting 2026 R2
Customers should choose the version that aligns with their own IT standards, lifecycle plans, and compliance needs.
Risks of Remaining on SQL Server 2019
Remaining on SQL Server 2019 introduces several risks:
- Reduced access to security improvements Microsoft provides only in newer releases.
- Limited fixes available under extended support.
- Higher exposure to potential performance issues and incompatibilities as Acumatica continues to evolve.
- Blocking issues when attempting to upgrade to Acumatica 2026 R2 or later.
The safest approach is to plan a SQL upgrade with enough time for testing and validation.
What You Need To Do
For Customers
Contact your Acumatica partner or IT administrator to plan your SQL Server upgrade. Align the timing of your SQL upgrade with your Acumatica upgrade roadmap to avoid disruption.
For Partners
Plan and schedule the required SQL Server upgrades for all affected customer environments. Validate that infrastructure, backups, and related integrations are ready for the transition.
