I have requirement to import existing customer contracts for which I have already started billing. What would be the best approach to create existing contracts through an import scenario.

TIA

Michelle,

Obviously, there other things that have to be done before you can import the service contracts like the projects and equipment.  But what we did for the service contracts was 3 imports.

The first import created the service contract with the appropriate start date, which may have been in the past.  We set an expiration type of unlimited even though we negotiated a new periodic service rate annually.   The import set the billing period and created the services per period entry.  Fortunately, we only had a single service per bill which made it easier.

The second import added the service schedules that would be used to create the appointments.

The third import activated the service contracts.

The billing picks up on the first period after go-live in the middle of the current contract period.  When there is a change in the periodic rate, the Recurring Item Price is updated for the Upcoming Billing Period.

Keep in mind that the service contract start date is also used to default the Service Contract Schedule.  In the middle of a contract, the start date and periodicity of the services may differ from the billing dates.  Once these are activated, the system expects that they will be generated regularly.  We had gaps in the implementation that required us to play catch up on the generation of bills and schedules.

I hope this helps.
