Inventory Life Cycle Management

Hello - How are you managing the life cycle of your part numbers?  We start with an R&D item.  It could be one we make, have made or purchase.  We assign it a part number as R&D, and make revision changes as it’s qualified and perhaps updated.  Finally, we might obsolete the part number.  We would like to track that life cycle of the part within Acumatica and we would like Acumatica to issue the next available part number, instead of tracking all of this in a sub-system.  What are other manufacturers doing within Acumatica to document the life of a part number?  Thank you.

What do you mean by a “sub-system” - a revision?

Some manufacturers leverage Arena PLM to manage R&D items.  Acumatica owns and sells a connector with Arena to automate the synchronization of data between applications.

You could use the Estimates module within Acumatica if you do not want to create an Inventory item.  This allows you to define routings and materials to calculate cost and determine price of a R&D item.

Lastly the Engineering Change Control module within Acumatica provides for altering a new or existing Item before released for production.
