Is there a dedicated Company Name field in the customer record? We are not using the CRM module so we have been inputting the company name in the Account Name (Customer:AcctName) field, however this is a required field so if there is no company name we have been inputting the full customer name in this field, which is not ideal.

Is there a best practice for this? We are used to having a non-required field for Company name (in our old ERP) that we would leave blank if there was no company associated with that customer. This would help with marketing, etc.

HI @mikeho

There is no designated field for the Company name. The Account Name is what you should be using for the customer name.

There are a few other options though:

  1. Use the Account Name for the Company name, which you are currently doing and use the Primary Contact field for the person.

  1. You can create an Attribute for all customers and call it Company.

  1. Or you can create a User defined field

Thank you, @kbeatty21! Those were exactly the options I thought we had to work with. It just seemed strange that there wasn’t a dedicated, non-required Company Name field when working with B2C customers. It kind of muddies the data when you’re trying to specifically look up a customer’s company name. Thanks for the help!
