Question

Inventory Planning - Not Considering Kit Assembly

Hello,

I have a customer who is using DRP and Kit Assembly to plan out what needs to be assembled for Sales Orders that drop in each week. One example is the Kit Assembly pictured below:

Even though this Kit Assembly has been created, DRP is not considering it in the Inventory Planning calculations. The customer is understandably concerned because they don’t want to create unneeded inventory by creating new Kit Assemblies every day, as Inventory Planning Display is suggesting:

The Kit Assembly is On Hold, but that is taken care of in Inventory Planning Preferences:

I have exhausted what I suspect could be the issue including the following:

  • Kit Assembly and Distribution Requirements Planning are both enabled on the Enable/Disable Features (CS100000) form
  • The Stock Item has the “Is a kit” box checked
  • The Kit Specification is Active
  • The General tab on the Stock Item has a Planning Method of DRP
  • The Inventory Planning tab on the Stock Item has “Kit Assembly” as the Source
  • The PACKAGING Warehouse in Item/Warehouse Details has the following settings:
    • Planning Method: DRP
    • Source: Kit Assembly
  • The PACKAGING Warehouse has all of the Inventory Planning settings checked

I don’t know what else may be ‘blocking’ the Assembly Supply from being considered in the Inventory Planning Regeneration process.

Thanks in advance for any help on this!

@mattjesse68  - what does Inventory Planning Results by Item (AM404000) display for the Kit/Warehouse combination?  Also what does Inventory Allocation Details (IN402000) display for the item warehouse combination?

Hi @andrestamour43, thank you for your response! Inventory Planning Results by Item (AM404000) displays the need for a Requirement Plan when a Kit Assembly already exists in the below example. I would have expected the Kit Assembly to show at the top of the results by item to cover the Planned Transfer Demand:

In the Inventory Allocation Details (IN402000) screen, there is nothing listed for the Inventory ID / Warehouse combination (No records found).

Just in case this plays a factor, here is how the Availability Calculation Rules are currently set:

Hello @mattjesse68 ,

I’ve tried a similar case on the Sales Demo data, and it works as expected. I would suggest trying to switch off → save → switch back on the ‘Include On-Hold Kit Assemblies’ setting. Then, if this doesn’t help, try to install Sales Demo locally and compare settings related to Warehouse, Inventory Preferences, and Stock Item.

Also, the Availability Calculation Rules in my case were the same as yours

Hi @valentynbeznosiuk - Thanks for the suggestions! I turned off ‘Include On-Hold Kit Assemblies’, and checked the settings for Warehouse, Inventory Preferences, and Stock Item.

The odd thing is, in the Sales Demo, these settings don’t make sense:

  • Planning Method - Inventory Replenishment
  • Replenishment Class - PURCHASE
    • Replenishment Source - Purchase
  • Warehouse RETAIL, Location STORAGE - Inventory Planning box: Unchecked

Yet it still shows in Inventory Planning Results by Item as an Assembly Supply element referencing the On Hold Kit Assembly:

Although the settings in the Sales Demo did not make sense to me, I still tried these changes in the Customer’s test environment and the Inventory Planning Results by Item shows: No Records Found.

I went ahead and submitted a case with Support - When this gets resolved, I’ll post an update in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Thanks again for the responses!

@mattjesse68 Thank you for sharing your results!

And the thing that probably was worth mentioning is that I’ve updated settings on the Stock Items to match yours during my tests since the ones existing in Sales Demo make no sense in your case.
