Unlike most of the other tables, Account Details doesn’t have the tab to say what the Generic Inquiry Table for the report is. It doesn’t seem to be API-AccountDetails, as that Inquiry is missing both the beginning and ending balance. What would be the source for the Account Details data?

HI
The data access class (DAC) is GLTranR. You can find this by clicking Customization-->Inspect Element and clicking on any of the grid column headers, assuming you have permission.
Some Inquiry screens are built in code rather than as generic inquiries, which is why they function differently.

Yes! Database widgets are based off of Generic Inquiries. Create a generic inquiry based on GLTranR and then you can use this as the data source on a dashboard widget.
