Access Rights to an Inquiry

What is the best way to find the reason that an inquiry comes up empty for a user?

I have an inquiry using the POReceiptLine, POOrder, and SOOrder tables to show all inbound inventory (Things on a PO and things on an SO of type TR).

When I (admin) run this, I get data. When my user runs this, he gets the title of the inquiry and no data at all (he has Delete rights to the inquiry).

My User’s Screen:

My Screen:

He can access PO Receipts, PO Orders, and Sales Orders (all of the tables I’m using).

If I give him Admin rights, he gets the data. I don’t have any restriction groups for him. Where would you all suggest checking for this issue?

@Michaelh If the user didn’t have access to the screen, trying to access it would either result in an error or it would redirect to screen 00000000, which is the company homepage.

The fact that it loads the screen does indicate access to the GI, but the missing data suggests it is related to Restriction Groups or possibly there is some issue with the actual GI.

You could try to copy the GI and see if the user can access the copy, or see if they could make the same GI themselves.

You may try to simplify the GI by removing data so only one table of data is visible, check the results, then add another table to the GI and check again until all tables are restored. This can help to understand, if there is an access issue, exactly which part of the GI is restricting the user.

I’ve seen issues in the past where Access showed granted but it was not actually granted and so re-setting the access on the screen could help (something which should be noticeable if you copy the GI as well). I’m not sure how many restriction groups are in the company but I have also seen an issue where certain data was not available to a user and we deactivated all the groups and re-activated them one at a time, with each new activation checking to see if the data was lost/gained.

If you are running 2024 R2 you need to specify access rights for any Generic Inquiry you create.  If you are on this verson, you can set the access rights by user from the GI screen.

@BenjaminCrisman - You wizard you!!!! I copied the inquiry, he gets data perfectly in my copy. Looks like an odd bug, because just as you said, changing him from DELETE to EDIT and then back to DELETE fixed the rights issue on the original copy. I’ll keep this in the back of my mind going forward, thanks much friend!

@josborn02 - Running 24R1 (still need that awkward publish), user had Delete Rights and had all Membership rights. Resolved now though, thank you for chiming in! It really does take a village around here.

@Michaelh Great Portland minds think alike! I moved out of Portland (and Oregon) in 2019, but it will always be home
