I appears that the Report Designers for 2024R2 is not backward compatible. This means a VAR that supports multiple version needs to reinstall Report Designed based on the customer version since you can not have multiple versions of Report Designer installed.

@dsimmerly I am pretty sure that you can just create a copy of the “Report Designer” folder, and move it to a location of your choice, ex C:\Report Designer\2024R2\. It will work just fine.

Gabriel is right. You don't even need to install the configuration tool. You can extract the .msi with a PowerShell script and run the utilities from the /data/ folder.

I was unable to get it to work with a Copy, but I was able to CUT it and then reinstall report designer. I didn’t have to extract anything, just cut and paste the report designer folder to a new folder.

It would have been way easier if they just called it separate things and added it to the MSI, or had a separate install for just report designer, but I was able to get it to work.

Thanks so much for this!  Great document explaining things!  :)

I would like to add to the previous answers that starting from Acumatica 2024r207 Report Designer should support both new and old sites (backward compatibility for old sites was added).

Old Report Designer apps from old Acumatica versions (2023r2 and older) still can’t work with newer Acumatica sites(2024r2 and newer).

Just a heads up there is a separate installer for Report Designer (and Device hub), this is called Acumatica Tools and is found on each product installer page here on community as well as builds.acumatica.com

that is what I was using to install them, but the way that it is written the file names are the same and without removing it from the default location, it will tell you it is already installed. Copying the Report Designer.exe file to a new folder was the easiest method.
